Sensory flooding vs Divine connection

Have you ever noticed some night when you went for a walk, and you looked up at the sky and wondered if there is more out there? Some purpose, a pattern of semi-random events, or something else we should be? But then you snapped back into the life you live, when the traffic light in front of you becomes green, or a car passes by & fades away, and you’re back where you started – in the middle of your own life.

It is in the human nature to question. To question your surroundings, your moral values, the events that happen, even why you eat the same breakfast each day. But then you tell yourself things need sorting, got a job to do, bus to catch, tv-series coming on, and you get yourself busy. We do question, but do we take time to think, or to find answers? Or to wonder why we question? If there is so much we need to do, so many goals to complete or work on, why should we question? What is the purpose? We got plenty to do right? We need that car, that mortgage on the house, a present for the kids, not to forget the anniversary for the girlfriend, etc. Then how come, in the midst of our busy life, we still have that driven motive to question?

Now there are different ways in how people handle their questions. Some suppress them, don’t let them get close. Others drink them away, couple shots of +40% will do the trick. And then, there are those that wonder. They ask questions, and some of them, they look for answers. And today, dear readers, I will tackle one of the biggest question of all...

Is there more then this life?

Now before you jump up & try to find your tinfoil hat, relax. It is a valid question, and it is a question that almost any human being has once asked in their life. I however, want to explore this question – in particular to the more spiritual side. Keep in mind I am not answering directly what I think there is, but I want to explore why we as humans ask that question.  So that’s a no to the UFO fanboi’s, I’m not looking for encounters with the 3rd kind here. Also keep in mind I will write what I see as an answer for myself.

Why do we as humans ask that question? Admit it, this is a question that at least has crossed your mind before. If it hasn’t, then I am impressed, since it is quite exceptional that one doesn’t ask this at least once. Now I think all humans have a spiritual side to them. This is something that isn’t directly measured in science & biology, and I don’t blame them. Science sees the human body as an electro-chemical machine, and this is totally accurate in my opinion. However, there is certain aspect that science can’t measure, and cannot prove. One of these things is the human’s spiritual side. Humans use spirituality and religion to find answers, or to draw strength, and have done so for thousands of years. Deep down inside humans want to search for something more, a spiritual connection.

With a spiritual connection I mean a conscious connection between myself and a higher Being. (To be clear, I personally believe in God, and more specific, I follow Christianity) From this connection I can draw comfort, strength, a feeling to be heard, and especially a feeling of being whole, a feeling of being 100% as I am supposed to be. I personally experience it in this way, but everybody can experience it in another way. I think it is a very positive thing, and something every human can respect & even want. However, if this is possible on a spiritual level, then why don’t most people find it, or even look for it? And the answer for that is something I already mentioned in the beginning: Sensory flooding.

Every day our brain receives loads and loads of data. This data contains what we see, hear, feel, taste, etc. Now only a small portion of that data is processed on a conscious level. The rest is processed in our subconscious, and we do not directly access that data. Now here is the thing. Due to the technological advancement in the last 100 years, the sensory data that our brain receives has increased by a very big portion. We have so much more to do, so much more to handle. We sit behind tv’s & computers for hours, use facebook to keep up to date with everybody’s thoughts & feelings that are posted every minute. We have city noises, rules and regulations for every single thing we use.

This results in a huge amount of impulses our brain gets, and it all needs to be processed. It will cause you to be tired at night, not giving room for yourself, your thoughts or questions. We are blinded of ourselves, by what we think we need to be... Have you ever stopped for a moment and wondered of what you, yourself would want to become? Can you even stop for a moment?

This is what I think is stopping people from looking. It will stop people from asking if there is more then this life. It will stop them from looking for a Divine connection.

So I ask you, stop for a moment. Give yourself a break. Away from the noise, the endless (virtual) demands, and try finding a question... and then look..

Because, for those who seek, answers will be found.
